The Corporate Services Department issues Marriage Licenses and can also provide Wedding Officiants for civil/non-denominational marriages. Marriage licenses can be issued no more than ninety (90) days in advance of your intended date of marriage.

How to apply for a Marriage License?
To apply for a marriage license, you must make an appointment at Town Hall, by calling 613-534-8889. If you do not make an appointment in advance, we cannot guarantee the availability of a license issuer.
At least one of the two individuals getting married must submit the completed application in person at the appointment as the Applicant, as stated on the Marriage License Application, with two (2) original pieces of identification for each of the parties. Please see below for identification requirements.

The fee for a marriage license is $125.00 (payable by cash, cheque or Interac).

When an Applicant has been divorced and the Divorce was granted in Canada, the original or a Court Certified Copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce is required. A Copy can only be certified by the Court in which the Applicant was divorced (a photocopy will not be accepted). In the case of a Divorce granted in Quebec, the Divorce Judgment will only be accepted if it was issued before 1986. Any divorce(s) granted outside of Canada requires special authorization from the Province BEFORE the marriage license application can be processed by the municipal licensing officer. If the Divorce was granted outside of Canada, please contact our office for further details. The process of applying for and receiving the necessary authorization may result in a delay in the issuance of the Marriage License. Who can marry us?
A religious marriage can be performed by a member of a recognized religious organization authorized to perform marriages in Ontario under the Marriage Act.
A civil marriage ceremony can be performed by a Justice of the Peace, Municipal Clerk or their Designate appointed as Marriage Commissioner.

About our Ceremonies
Your wedding should be a customized ceremony, reflecting who you are as individuals and as a couple. To do this, the Officiant will meet with you to discuss the details of your special day and to get to know you a little better. Although every effort is made to accommodate last-minute requests, there can be situations in which demand regrettably exceeds availability. To avoid disappointment, couples are encouraged to reserve their wedding date with an Officiant well in advance.
Ceremonies can be conducted in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault during business hours. Alternatively, we are available to perform the ceremony at the location of your choice during evenings and weekends.
Our Officiants are happy to accommodate any special requests you would like to incorporate into your ceremony, such as personalized scripts, poems, readings, etc. Two witnesses are required and must be fourteen (14) years of age or older. Photographs and videos are permitted during the ceremony. Please respect the facilities and do not celebrate with rice or confetti in the Council Chambers, Community Hall, parking lot, entrance or surrounding public areas including sidewalks. Alcohol or stimulants are not to be used by the celebrants or their witnesses prior to or during the ceremony. If the Officiant believes that alcohol or other stimulants have been used, the ceremony will not proceed.
