On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Council for the Township of South Stormont officially adopted the 2025 Municipal Operating and Capital Budgets. The 2025 budget represents a 6.9% township tax rate increase from 2024. Property taxes amount to 44.4% of total revenue for the Township in the 2025 municipal budget.
“Municipalities across the country continue to make difficult budget decisions in order to provide efficient and effective services to their residents,” said Mayor Bryan McGillis. “The Township is not immune to inflationary concerns, but I am happy that our Council and Staff have been able to reduce the reliance of tax revenue to 44% of our total revenue,” McGillis added.
The Township’s budget for operations in 2025 is $14,392,064, with an additional $1,230,000 transferred to reserves for future needs.
In addition to municipal operations, Capital investments for 2025 total $7,814, 086. Some key Capital projects included in the budget are:
- Myers Road Resurfacing ($325,203)
- Eamon Road Resurfacing ($213, 949)
- Hunters Road Cross Culvert Replacement ($650,000)
- Capital Improvements for Ice Plant at Long Sault Arena ($408, 700)
- New Playground Structures at Elm St, Ingleside; Mille Roches Rd, Long Sault; and Henry de Rooy Park, Lunenburg ($168,798)
