On Wednesday, September 18th, 2024, MPP Nolan Quinn announced that South Stormont was successful in their bid for a Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWS) grant. Members of South Stormont Council and staff were on hand to hear MPP Quinn’s announcement of the $21.9Million grant.

In total, the Township of South Stormont submitted a $30Million application to support the expansion of the Ingleside Wastewater Treatment Facility and enhancements to the Long Sault Water Treatment Facility. These projects will improve water and wastewater services for the Township and allow for residential and commercial growth opportunities.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Province of Ontario under the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund to help our community grow and contribute to realizing the shared goals of increasing our housing supply,” says Mayor Bryan McGillis. “Programs such as the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund are critical for municipalities to realize development goals, and we are grateful that our provincial partners have recognized our commitment to sustainable growth in our communities.”

“These investments are a key part of Ontario’s commitment to building 500,000 new homes and improving our critical infrastructure,” says MPP Nolan Quinn.  “By investing $21.9Million in South Stormont the Township and the region will benefit. We are not only addressing current needs but also ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for all Ontarians.”

The initial intake for HEWS resulted in $970M to help municipalities develop, repair, rehabilitate and expand drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure across the province.
