Update to Building Permits and Inspections Process During COVID-19 Pandemic

Published on 8 April 2020

While the Township of South Stormont Municipal office is closed to the public, the Building Department continues to provide Building Permit/Inspection services.

Although building permits will still be processed and issued, O. Reg. 82/20: ORDER UNDER SUBSECTION 7.0.2 (4) - CLOSURE OF PLACES OF NON-ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES under Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, restricts construction activities except for certain exempted construction projects (sections 27,28 29 & 31) and certain residential construction projects where a building permit has been issued prior to April 4, 2020 (section 30). Please be advised that even though a building permit has been issued, construction and inspections on restricted construction projects can only commence once the Provincial construction ban has been lifted.

Please be advised that when an inside inspection of a building is requested, the occupants of the building (including workers) will be required to vacate the building during the time that the inspection is performed.  Once the inspection is completed the inspection report will be emailed to the applicant.

It is possible to request an inspection, review a building permit application or submit documentation the following ways:

  • By phone - 613-534-8889 (extension 206)
  • By email - troy@southstormont.ca
  • Leaving applications, plans/documents, payments, etc. in the drop box located outside the Municipal office, 2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Chief Building Official
Township of South Stormont
