Notice of Construction: Bridge Replacement, County Rd. 36/Highway 401

Beginning mid-April, construction will commence on County Road 36 (Post Road) at Highway 401. Looby Construction Limited have been contracted by the United Counties of SDG to complete the removal and replacement of the existing bridge over Highway 401. Below is a Notice of Construction from Looby Construction Limited. 


Looby Construction Limited would like to advise: Emergency Services, School Boards & Transportation, Municipalities and other business & Interest groups; that construction will soon begin for the removal and replacement of the existing bridge over Highway 401 located at County Rd. 36 (Post Road).

Construction Timeline:

  • Construction will begin on County Rd. 36 (Post Road) at Highway 401 in Mid-April.
  • County Rd. 36 (Post Road) at Highway 401 will be closed to all traffic starting May 1, 2019 and is scheduled to be closed until November 15, 2019. During the full closure, motorists are asked to follow the signed detours following County Road 15 (Avonmore Rd.), County Road 2, Cornwall Centre Road and County Rd. 33 (Power Dam Drive).
  • Night time full closures of Highway 401 in both directions will be performed during demolition of the existing bridge at County Rd. 36. Detailed closure information for the demolition of the existing bridge (including dates, times and detour routes) will be provided when available.
  • Night time rolling closures of Highway 401 in both directions will be performed during construction of the new bridge at County Rd. 36. Detailed closure information for the construction of the bridge structure (including dates, times and detour routes) will be provided when available.
  • Throughout construction single lane closures will occur on Highway 401 in both directions and on County Rd. 36. All consideration has been given to implement traffic control measures to minimize disruption to the travel of the public.
