South Stormont Fire Station Grand Opening

September 12, 2017

South Stormont, ON - Council, Fire Chief Gilles Crepeau, South Stormont’s Fire and Rescue personnel, township staff and members of the public celebrated the grand opening of the newly constructed Station 4 in St. Andrews West.  The new fire station provides the residents of South Stormont with a brand new modern facility for the purposes of fire and emergency response.

The Township of South Stormont ratepayers funded the entire facility and it is within the 2017 budget approval at a cost of $1.7 million.  The new St. Andrews West Fire Station includes features such as the three-door apparatus bay with a drive through feature, a large paved parking area, a provincially mandated storm water management pond, and facilities to accommodate an occupancy rating of 50 persons for events such as public meetings and other community and social functions.

South Stormont completed a Fire Master Plan in January, 2016.  The approved Plan provided a strategic framework to assist Council in making decisions for the provision of fire protection and emergency services; the location and functionality of each of the South Stormont fire stations was included in the Master Plan.  “The Station 4 build provides us with a solid and forward approach for future South Stormont fire station replacements or renovations.  We are very pleased with this new facility”, said Mayor Bancroft.

Fire Chief Crepeau stated, “I am thrilled to have been a part of the process for the construction of the new station, the Township’s flagship station.  This project has been several years in the making and is the result of a team of companies and individuals who have contributed to its success.  To have a project of this size, on time and on budget, is a testament to all those involved including A-49, WSP, Grant Marion Construction, Director of Public Works Ross Gellately, Administration, Council, as well as all South Stormont Firefighters.  The residents of South Stormont have a fabulous new facility and a state of the art fire station of which we can all be extremely proud.”

Photos of the new fire station, including construction phases, can be found on the Township’s website.  It is anticipated that an Open House will be scheduled during Fire Prevention Week in October to further display the new fire station located at Civic #5205 Provincial Highway 138, South Stormont.
