Local Business Portal Launched to Encourage Shopping Local

Published on 3 April 2020

The Township of South Stormont has partnered with the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce and a number of other organizations to provide businesses the opportunity to participate in a new business portal that will encourage consumers to shop local and spread the word of service adjustments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All businesses in South Stormont that are operating during the pandemic in one form or another are encouraged to visit www.ShopCornwallandArea.ca and  provide their business details.

Each participating business will receive a free listing that could include opening hours (if applicable), contact details, pick-up or delivery options, a small product catalogue, and links to existing ecommerce sites. As part of the program, vendors who express interest in establishing an ecommerce site will also receive assistance from the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce.

The three main goals of the initiative are:

  • Increasing online sales for local businesses during the pandemic and beyond
  • Providing customers with a centralized hub for information on accessing their favourite local vendors, products and services
  • Continuing to stress the importance and impact of buying local

The registration portal for businesses interested in having a listing is now open, and the public facing site is set to launch on April 7th. Any local businesses in participating should visit www.ShopCornwallandArea.ca as soon as possible to register!

Any businesses within South Stormont who may have questions can contact Chris Hemond, Economic Development/Communications Coordinator by email or at (613) 362-1852
