Lake St. Lawrence Water Levels Expected to Rise as Outflows Decreased

The International Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Board has indicated that with the expected ice formation from cold temperatures, outflows are likely to be reduced through the Moses-Saunders Dam.
These outflow reductions will cause levels of Lake St. Lawrence to rise from the near-record lows experienced to much higher levels. Gates at the Iroquois Dam may need to be partially lowered in the water to help suppress these high levels, but this action presents challenges for ice management operations. These expected fluctuations are described in this International Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Board news release from several weeks ago.
