Lifeguards/Instructors - Parks and Recreation Department

Wage Rate: currently under review
Hours per week: 35 hours / week
Duration: up to 13 weeks – June 1, 2020 to August 30, 2020

The Lifeguards / Instructors will provide full support and activities for groups of all ages for a complete outdoor summer swim program for the Township of South Stormont.  They will also enhance skills and gain valuable work experience through daily contact with the public. Proper teaching and guarding certifications are required.

The Lifeguard Supervisor and the Director of Parks and Recreation will provide the necessary day-to-day supervision. Students will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.


Lifeguard Supervisor (1) - Parks and Recreation Department

Hours per week: 35 hours / week
Duration: up to 18 weeks – May 4, 2020 to September 4, 2020

The Lifeguard Supervisor will provide full supervisory support to lifeguards and instructors in relation to the outdoor summer swim program for the Township of South Stormont. This individual will enhance skills and gain valuable work experience through daily contact with the public as well as enhance computer skills. Proper instructor and guarding certifications are required.

The Director of Parks and Recreation and the Recreation Programs Coordinator will provide the necessary day-to-day supervision. The Student will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.  The Lifeguard Supervisor is required to have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.


Special Events - Coordinator (2) and Assistant (1) - Parks and Recreation Department

Hours per week: 35 hours / week
Duration: up to 18 weeks – May 4, 2020 to September 4, 2020

The Special Events Coordinators (currently attending post-secondary school) and Special Events Assistant (currently attending secondary school) will provide cooperative activities for all ages through recreational activities and programs located in Township parks and facilities. These individuals will enhance skills and gain valuable work experience through daily contact with the public and will also increase computer skills. Individuals will have the opportunity to be innovative and creative. Leadership, good communication and organizational skills are a must.

The Director of Parks and Recreation and the Recreation Programs Coordinator will provide the necessary day-to-day supervision. Students will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.  Individuals are required to have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.


General Labourer (2)- Parks and Recreation Department 

Wage Range:  currently under review
Hours per week:  40+/- hours per week (flexible)
Duration:  up to 18 weeks – May 4, 2020 to September 4, 2020

The General Labourer will be responsible for various duties including maintaining the grass and flower beds at all Township properties, assisting with the maintenance of recreation facilities, and the delivery of programs. Leadership, good communication and organizational skills are a must.

The Director of Parks and Recreation will provide the necessary day-to-day supervision. The student will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.  This individual is required to have a valid driver’s licence.


Historic Site Coordinators - Lost Villages Museum (3) - Parks and Recreation

Wage Range:  currently under review
Hours per week:  40+/- hours per week (flexible)
Duration:  up to 17 weeks – May 4, 2020 to August 30, 2020

The Historic Site Coordinator(s) will open and close the museum on a daily basis, from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., clean buildings and displays, help with mounting displays, and guide tourists and patrons around the site.   As well, they will operate the store, keep accurate records of sales, and have the register signed by visitors.  These individuals will enhance their skills and gain valuable work experience through daily contact with the public.  Leadership, good communication and organizational skills are a must.

Members of the Lost Villages Historical Society will provide the necessary day-to-day supervision. Students will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.


Corporate Services / Customer Services Student (2)

Hours per week: 35 hours per week
Duration: up to 18 weeks – May 4, 2020 to August 28, 2020  

The Corporate Services Student will provide support relative to administrative operations and will become an integral part of South Stormont customer service and operational function.  Duties will include customer service/reception, policy research and overall support to the Corporate Services Department. This may include participation in the website re-development project, voters list and municipal elections preparations and records management policy and training research.  The candidate will also be assisting in scanning and integrating building permit files with the Township’s new electronic permitting system.

The Director of Corporate Services will provide the necessary day-to-day supervision.  The student will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.


Finance Student (1) - Corporate Services 

Wage Rate: currently under review
Hours per week: 35 hours per week
Duration: up to 18 weeks – May 4, 2020 to August 28, 2020.

The Finance Student will provide support to the finance department.  The ideal student will have strong computer skills with an accounting background and a desire to aspire to an accounting profession. This position will involve data input related to municipal operations along with other           day-to-day finance department functions.

The Director of Finance will provide the necessary day-to-day supervision. The student will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.


Planning/Building Intern (1) - Planning and Building Department

Hours per Week:35 hours per week
Duration: up to 18 weeks - May 4, 2020 to August 28, 2020

The Planning/Building Intern will provide a wide range of land use and planning activities in our community and will be an integral part of the Planning Department. Duties will include updating the Township’s planning documents, providing assistance to public inquiries and planning application reviews along with completing public notices and circulations with respect to planning applications and undertaking research initiatives. The successful candidate will ideally be enrolled in or have completed a university program related to urban planning or geography. The candidate will also be assisting in scanning and integrating building permit files with the Township’s  new electronic permitting system.

The Director of Planning/Building will provide the necessary day-to-day supervision. The Intern will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.


Minor Sport Referees

Wage Rate: Currently under review
Hours per week: 5 +/- hours per week
Soccer Referee Duration: up to 11 weeks – May 12 to July 21
Ball Hockey Referee Duration: up to 9 weeks – May 27 to July 23

Referees will provide strong verbal communication, decision-making and leadership skills. They should be able to easily resolve conflicts and have the physical ability to be on their feet for long periods of time. Applicants can apply for one or both referee positions (soccer and/or ball hockey)

The Recreation Coordinator will provide schedules and instructions for each week. The student will be provided the necessary training to meet the Township’s Health and Safety Program standards.
