Each year we know that members of the community take the appreciated initiative to coordinate community clean up days. Residents take time out of their busy schedules to clean an area in their neighbourhood; ditches, roadsides, parks, etc. We are so appreciative of these initiatives, and we want to help support those groups and individuals who try to keep our communities clean and free from litter!
The Township has secured additional gloves and garbage bags to donate to members of the community or groups who wish to participate in such initiatives and will coordinate the collection of any bags once complete. The number of gloves and bags are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, however the collection of bags will be offered to all.
We ask that any groups or individuals wishing to participate in community clean up initiatives to:
- Schedule their initiatives to be completed prior to April 30, 2024
- Contact us when complete to advise where bags will be left for collection. To report your collection area when complete, you can contact our Public Works Coordinator by email at info@southstormont.ca or by telephone at 613-534-8889 ext. 212
- Bags can be deposited on roadsides near the collection site, at street intersections, etc. Please be sure to have bags well off the road to not interfere with traffic.
- Pick up gloves and bags at the Township Office any time during regular business hours of Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. A guide with safety tips and ways to help in reducing litter will be provided along with your supplies.
- Please practice extreme caution when collecting litter from roadsides and ditches. Be mindful of traffic, uneven ground, and potential risks around you, including with the type of debris you may collect.
- Share photos with us! If you wish, please share photos of you, your family, or your group of neighbours who have participated in a community clean up initiative! We will be happy to recognize your efforts by sharing on our social media channels and encourage others to participate and help keep South Stormont clean!
- You can share your photos with us on Facebook, Instagram, or by contacting our Communications Coordinator
By having these initiatives completed by April 30th, we can report on the amazing work our community has done to coordinate with the National Day of Action on Litter, which falls on May 14th, 2024. We can recognize our community as ambassadors for a cleaner South Stormont!
